I have a Scottish last name... which proves only one Scotsman in my ancestry, and yet the Leslies consider ourselves Scottish-American. Even though there are a lot more German and English ancestors. We're like most Americans; we're mutts. Celebrating ancestry through historically-inaccurate Highland Games and Renaissance Fairs. Obviously if our ancestors thought their homelands were so great, we wouldn't be here in the United States would we? And yet in order to feel better about ourselves we tap into the past those ancestors rejected. Well, not really the past. Lots of it gets ignored because we don't teach history in schools; we teach patriotism. (Length: 25:30. 13.1MB.)
