Bill, is now back on the table in a big way.NPR's Morning Edition has just done a terrific segment on the GI Bill and my book, Over Here: How the GI Bill Transformed the American Dream, featuring interviews with several of my main characters, George McGovern and film director Arthur Penn, along with yours truly. You can find the NPR audio here.
The report also examines proposals to restore the current GI Bill to its past glories, so that's today's veterans can have the same opportunities that awaited the Greatest Generation when they returned home. A follow-up NPR report on fixing the current GI Bill can be found here.
I am a scholar of the Medieval period and my husband is a scholar of Ancient and Classical history. Together, our love of history has led to the creation of this podcast. We have also been influenced by other history podcasters, whose links appear on the links page. Every week we plan to have a 15 minute show that deals with some subject in early history. The Medieval time period is not exactly set to particular years, as many scholars have different dates in mind. For the purpose of this podcast, the Middle Ages range from about 400 after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, until around 1500, the beginning of the Renaissance. Any time before this will fall under the Ancient and Classical history time period.
