Used to be that in days gone by come good times or bad times there was always football. Not so now. Now financial crises are as much a worry for Premier League clubs as avoiding relegation - maybe even more so.

Another week and another raft of reasons why English football has to be the most bizarre league in the footballing world. And Brighton knocked Man City out of the Carling Cup.
There's the "goal" that missed by 4 yards in the Watford / Reading game and the continuing saga of Sheffield Utd vs West Ham at the tribunal. And Brighton knocked Man City out of the Carling Cup.
There's Mike Ashley running around the Middle East trying to sell Newcastle, although strangely it's a Nigerian consortium that is now interested. And the St James Park faithful might have to amend that "Cockney Mafia Out" sign if El Tel himself decides to take the vacant manager's job - although for how long his guess is as good as anyones. And Brighton knocked Man City out of the Carling Cup.
Then there's Man Utd losing to Liverpool one week and then almost getting the first away win at Stamford Bridge for a couple of hundred years. Liverpool themselves beating Utd last week and then only managing a draw at Anfield against Stoke. There's City, comprehensively beaten by Chelsea this week knocking six past Portsmouth. And Brighton knocked Man City out of the Carling Cup.
About the only constants were Spurs and Newcastle - woeful last week, no better this week. And did I mention that Brighton knocked Man City out of the Carling Cup?

Coupled with Danny Guthrie's appalling, 95th minute, player going nowhere tackle that broke the leg of Hull City's Craig Fagan there's discussion over the disciplinary system, given that Terry would have been looking at the same suspension as Guthrie.
And, of course, there's much to say about Spurs, starting the season as well as they started last season and Ramos claim that they may need another 10 games to get their season started. Maybe Paul Jewell will be at Spurs before October's out...

We pick our way through the events at Manchester City, Newcastle and West Ham and consider their impact on the league and football in England and the national team itself.
Plus we'll have a preview of this weekend's fixtures. Get it quick before we taken over by a billionaire and moved on to some other podcast without our knowledge.

Yes, this is Show 3 despite Chris welcoming you to Show 2 (and he also manages to get his brain in a twist with the UEFA Super Cup).
Plenty of reversals of fortune here with teams that won convincingly last weekend losing comprehensively this week to teams that got thumped last week. Of course, we’re only [...]
