Space Junk
One BIG Garbage Can!
As of June 21 2000, the U.S. Space Command counted 8,927 man-made objects in the great above and beyond; some are there more or less permanently. Of the total, 2,671 are satellites (working or not), 90 are space probes that have been launched out of Earth orbit, and 6096 are mere chunks of debris zooming around the third planet from the Sun. The United States leads the former Soviet Union in the total quantity of orbital junk, but some companies and other organizations contribute significantly to the count.

Little Dinasaurs
The who's who of reptiles
After surviving nearly unchanged for over 200 million years crocodiles and alligators were hunted to the brink of extinction between 1900 and 1967 in a period as brief as a single man's life, how sad. Also their habitats continue to shrink. Today due to conservation efforts the American alligator is no longer on the endangered species list but many species of crocodiles remain at risk. Continued diligence is necessary if we are to preserve these incredible animals that open a door to the planet's early history and a window into an age of fantastic creatures that ruled the earth for tens of millions of years.

If they ate spinach would they have more iron?
The discovery of the magnetic compass was an event of GREAT importance in the history of people. It was the first documented instrument created by mankind that could be read using a precise scale. Of course the sundial had been around for a long time, but it doesn't move [just it's shadow does as you know]. There was the wind vane, but no precise way at that time to measure wind direction. If you think about it, it's pretty hard to measure direction in general, without a compass. The earliest known compass surfaced in China by at least the first century A.D. It apparently didn't arrive in Europe until the twelfth century A.D [1100's]
