In the 20th century, Germany saw its media used and abused by governments during World War two and in East Germany. Since then the country's media like the culture itself, has embraced reinvention. Over 90 per cent of Germans for example have cable or satellite TV and major networks plan to go completely digital by 2010. Thomas De Vogt is the executive producer of SBS Radio's German program. He starts by explaining to Peggy Giakoumelos how the German media changed after World War Two.

For Patrick O'Flaherty, tracing his family history was no easy task. A member of what he describes as a 'white stolen generation' Patrick was sent to Australia and placed in an orphanage after being told that his family had died. But the story he was told as a child, wasn't what it seemed as Peggy Giakoumelos discovered.
